An entrepreneur for most of his career, Michael has a passion for helping people and companies succeed. As a creative strategist and agency owner, Michael is an award-winning leader with over 18 years of executive leadership and business experience and is best known as CEO of DONOVAN, one of Canada’s most awarded, independent branding and advertising agencies. His business interests include supporting, sponsoring, and mentoring multi-national, small and medium sized enterprise clients around the world with benchmark analysis, strategies and positional solutions that are needed to drive topline and margin growth.
Michael joined ProFound to exercise his passion to more broadly help companies and their people succeed in life and work. Michael’s work has been widely recognized with over 50 international awards for organizational innovation, marketing effectiveness and branding. A few of his most notable recognitions have been by the American Library Association, with their top North American award for re-branding the Edmonton Public Library; the Urban Library Council prize for organizational innovation; the World Routes Awards for effective and innovative marketing of the Edmonton International Airport; and the Airports Council International’s top award three years running; alongside reviews in USA Today and Airport World for innovations in marketing and advertising. Michael is a past winner of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Owner of the Year Award. In 2012, he was honoured with Edmonton Economic Development’s Recognition Award, for bringing “sustained, positive international awareness to Edmonton.” He has built many profitable business strategies and solutions for organizations like the Mariash Group of Companies, the Edmonton International Airport, Athabasca University, the Edmonton Public Library, Hamilton International Airport, CAPP, municipalities, the Government of Alberta, and many more. Michael is involved in the international business community, mentoring (and building) start-ups, and advising on a range of business subjects. He has advised government departments and political campaigns on communications, branding and reputation strategies for over 15 years.
Michael has been a member of the Trans-Canada Advertising Network, Entrepreneurs Organization, The Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Public Relations Society, International Association of Business Communicators, and has sat on boards such as the Alberta Enterprise Group, the Market Research and Intelligence Association, the Alberta Museum Association, and On-site Placement. Michael was recently chosen as a Global PEIF Mentor for the PEIF Global Mentorship Program.
